Mercury was a prankster, liar and accomplished thief, and yet, in spite this he won the great affection of the Gods because of his playfulness, innocence and helpfulness.

He was particularly helpful to Jupiter, his father and became his official messenger and trusted aide. Mercury is usually depicted in winged boots and helmet to swiftly carry messages for the Gods.

When Jupiter's wife Juno, captured his lover Io to punish her for seducing her husband, it was Mercury who lulled her guard to sleep, slew him and freed Io.

Mercury was a skilled musician and embodies intelligence and creative thought. He is the God of communication and rules all areas of business and commerce.
